Zoning and Appeals Board

IMG_1734_edited.jpg

Mission

Established pursuant to Article I, Section 1.13, Paragraph 16 of the Cohutta Town Charter (established via Georgia House Bill 623), the Cohutta Zoning and Appeals Board is empowered to guide the responsible growth, land use, and physical development of the Town of Cohutta. Acting as a crucial regulatory body, the board manages local building permits and zoning requirements independently from surrounding Whitfield County. It evaluates applications for variances, reviews proposed property rezonings, and ensures that new construction aligns with the historic and rural character of the community. The board holds its public hearings when called upon to hear a zoning issue at the Cohutta Community Center, providing residents a direct voice in shaping their town's infrastructure.
