"I'm so glad the Street Dance is back!"
That was the recurring sentiment on September 20th as people paid $5 to enter the Street Dance. Cohutta Elementary school kids were excited to hand in the free ticket they received at school, too! This often accompanied a memory (or two) of coming to the Street Dance years gone by with a grandparent. After a five year hiatus, the Cohutta Ruritan Club decided it was time to bring back this town favorite!
Whether folks were dancing to the music of Wes Harness or the headliner Country Thunder, clapping along to the Carpet Capital Cloggers, enjoying a hotdog and soda courtesy of the Mason Lodge, getting a tasty treat from a food vendor, enjoying a cold drink from the Red Wolfe or General Store, perusing through the craft vendors, or just kicking back and chatting with friends new and old, the Cohutta Street Dance was a roaring success! Don't worry, I was reassured by the Ruritan Club that it would definitely keep this an annual tradition!
Special thanks to Rob Chase, who first pitched this dream to the Ruritan Club in a member meeting. He was definitely right when he said, "It's time to bring it back!" Special thanks also go to our committee chairwomen, Kathryn Kornberg and Kelli Bryson, and committee members Katie and Mark Farmer, Shane Kornberg, Rob and Becky Chase, Carrie D'Angelo, Ed Painter, and Melissa Warner.
The event could not have happened without the support of our mayor, Ron Shinnick, our police chief, Greg Fowler, all the officers who provided assistance, of course the Cohutta Ruritan Club, but especially all the sponsors of the 2025 Cohutta Street Dance! Make sure to stop in and support these businesses or just say "THANKS!" next time you visit!
